The Only Shorts We’re Wearing in 2025

The Only Shorts We’re Wearing in 2025

Where can I wear shorts?

I'll be frank with you: We're entering the era when you can wear shorts just about anywhere. But they have to be the right kind.

As I said before, you can't exactly show up to the office in sweat shorts. But on a sweltering, sweaty day, you can't be expected to wear pants, either. Whether you're on vacation, at work, or going to a nice restaurant, the right pair of shorts should be able to accompany you anywhere. Unless the dress code is specifically against them, do your best to dress 'em up and take 'em for a spin.

How can I dress shorts up?

Make it easy for yourself by selecting a pair that already lends itself to some elevated vibes. A chino style will do nicely. You can't go wrong with loafers or boat shoes and a polo or, if the weather allows, even a button-up and a belt. As long as you aren't sticking to sneakers (or worse—sandals) and a tee, you should be okay.

Should I always wear a belt with my shorts?

Depending on the pair that you purchase, a belt may not be necessary. In fact, in the summer you may want to avoid the added weight of a belt and opt for shorts that have a drawstring or elasticized waist instead. What material should I look for?You know as well as I do that when it comes to sweltering summertime rays, you want a fabric that is lightweight, breathable, and able to wick away moisture. That's why you should gravitate toward a material like cotton, linen, polyester, and seersucker, which will keep you cool, even when the weather is not. An added tip: Some fabrics have UPF+ protection, which is great for shielding yourself against the elements.
