The son of the Ministry of Economy and Finance's undersecretary sits on the board of directors of Trieste's Verdi Theater. The Democratic Party has questioned Giuli.

The son of Sandra Savino of Forza Italia, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Verdi Theater in Trieste. His mother also serves in the same municipality where he also serves as Councilor for General Services Policies. The opposition is protesting. Democratic MPs Debora Serracchiani and Irene Manzi , Democratic Party group leaders in the Chamber of Deputies' Culture Committee, have announced they will submit a question to the Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli , seeking clarification.
We will ask Minister Giuli if she is aware of the composition of the Board of Directors of the Fondazione Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi Trieste, and in any case, we believe the situation should be brought to her attention and evaluated. From what we understand, no women are members of the Foundation's board of directors, a case perhaps unique in Italy and in any case in moral conflict with European and national guidelines,” Serracchiani and Manzi complained. The appointment of the son of Sandra Savino, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, who also serves as Councilor for General Services Policies in the Trieste City Council, also caused surprise.
The question will be addressed to Minister Giuli and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, or rather to the Minister with responsibility for Equal Opportunities, who is responsible for monitoring and overseeing the implementation of gender quotas.
"We wonder whether the appointment," the Democratic Party MPs explain, "by the same municipality where the undersecretary serves as councilor, of a first-degree relative to a body such as the Foundation's Board of Directors constitutes a conflict or another inappropriate mix of responsibilities and interests. Furthermore, the specific qualifications that make the appointed individual more suitable than others for the same role are unknown, with the exception of the role of partner and director," Serracchiani and Manzi conclude, "in a company linked to the undersecretary's historic family business."
