Italy focuses on quantum computing: the Italian Quantum Alliance is born.

Italy is preparing to play a leading role in the global race for quantum technologies. This is the goal of the Italian Quantum Alliance (AQI), a new initiative that brings together universities, research institutions, public institutions, and industrial players in a cohesive ecosystem, aiming to promote national excellence and compete internationally.
The project was born in line with the new Italian Strategy for Quantum Science and Technology , launched recently, and is part of the broader European framework for quantum innovation. The Alliance currently involves eight founding partners: the University of Bologna, CINECA, INRIM (National Institute for Metrological Research), the University of Padua, INAF (National Institute for Astrophysics), INFN (National Institute for Nuclear Physics), the University of Pavia, and the Polytechnic University of Milan. The Association is open to new members and has already received expressions of interest from numerous other entities, with the aim of building an increasingly broad network that represents Italy's potential in the sector.
Quantum technologies represent a rapidly developing field with potentially transformative implications: from quantum computers to ultra-secure communications, from precision sensors to quantum networks and quantum applications of artificial intelligence. It is a strategic front for industrial competitiveness, advanced training, and scientific innovation.
The Alliance aims to counter the fragmentation of skills and resources by promoting a unified vision capable of accelerating research, training, and technology transfer. The model is one of structured and lasting collaboration between academia, scientific institutions, the manufacturing sector, and institutions, to strengthen Italy's presence on the international quantum scene.
