Dalias Street closure begins in Torreón Jardín to reduce accidents

Following City Council approval last year, work will begin this week to redesign Dalias Street in the Torreón Jardín neighborhood, a neighborhood considered to have very high traffic volume. Once completed, the changes will be subject to a trial period.
Gustavo Muñoz López, director of Urban Planning and Territorial Planning in Torreón, explained that this is a busy road, which is why the intersection at Dalias and Laguna Norte is considered highly problematic, with accidents far exceeding the local average.
In this regard, he mentioned that the Torreón Jardín Colonists Association He made the request to the Municipality of Torreón last year. and it was authorized by the full Council, so the residents already had the green light to begin these works when they so determined.
"This request had been made previously, and there is a City Council agreement authorizing this closure," he commented. "Like any other traffic change or closure, it will be subject to a trial period once it is implemented."
The residents' proposal is to close Dalias Street at the intersection of Laguna Sur and Laguna Norte, with the goal of discouraging traffic congestion on this road, as taxis and other vehicles often travel here at very high speeds, taking shortcuts through the neighborhood to avoid traffic lights and congestion.
It's worth mentioning that the maximum speed limit, according to road signs in the neighborhood, is 40 kilometers per hour, although in the area near the IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute), it drops to 30 kilometers per hour. However, Those currently driving on Dalias can reach speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour. In this context, residents have also requested the installation of traffic jams, which some drivers have removed so they can continue driving without stopping.
By expanding the medians, there would be the possibility of expanding the green areas of the neighborhood.
