The deputy director of security in Paraíso, Tabasco, has been arrested for double homicide.

The deputy director of security in Paraíso, Tabasco, has been arrested for double homicide.

The tranquility of Paraíso, Tabasco, was shattered once again after the sudden arrest of Rubicel “N” , deputy director of Municipal Public Security , accused of being linked to the murder of two members of his own corporation.

The news was confirmed at a press conference by Serafín Tadeo Lazcano , Secretary of Public Security (SSPC), who stated that the arrested man is identified as a "generator of violence" within the municipality. His capture not only shakes up state security forces but also exposes a possible criminal network infiltrating the local government .

Accompanied by the head of the National Guard in Tabasco, General David Ramírez Pinón , the secretary explained that the arrest was carried out as part of a coordinated intelligence operation to dismantle criminal organizations in the region.

Although details are being withheld due to due process, it has emerged that the detained soldier allegedly gave direct orders to members of a criminal cell to carry out violent acts, including the murder of two fellow police officers.

Searches in Tulum and Chetumal result in six arrests and drugs seized.

On March 21, 2025, two municipal agents were ambushed and shot dead while riding their motorcycles after leaving the base. Two days later, authorities arrested three individuals allegedly involved in the crime.

However, the investigations went further. Rubicel's name began to appear in the investigation files, and his arrest was ultimately carried out. The State Attorney General's Office is handling the case with extreme secrecy.

"There's been a significant arrest. All of this stems from the murder of our two comrades," declared General Miguel Ángel López Martínez, commander of the 30th Military Zone.

The involvement of a high-ranking official is not an isolated incident. According to figures from the organization Causa en Común , at least 146 police officers have been murdered in Mexico in 2025. This pattern highlights a worrying vulnerability in law enforcement agencies, especially at the municipal level.

The states most affected by these murders are:

  • Guanajuato: 20
  • Sinaloa: 18
  • Michoacán: 12
  • Warrior: 10
  • Jalisco: 9

Since Claudia Sheinbaum 's administration began in October 2024, 240 police officers have lost their lives in the line of duty, reflecting a security crisis that affects not only citizens but also those who try to protect them.

Those arrested for the attack on Ciro Gómez Leyva plead guilty

Cases like that of Rubicel “N” expose a worrying trend: organized crime not only corrupts, but also rises in the hierarchy within government structures. According to security experts, this infiltration allows criminal cells to operate with impunity, privileged information, and institutional cover .

For citizens, the message is doubly alarming: if those who are supposed to protect are implicated, who is left to defend the people?

Authorities assure there will be no impunity. The Tabasco SSPC , the National Guard, and the 30th Military Zone maintain active operations in the municipality to contain possible violent reactions from dismantled criminal cells.

Meanwhile, the State Attorney General's Office continues its investigations, and Tabasco residents demand answers, justice, and guarantees that the police will no longer be an arm of crime.
