La Charca de la Mina: the unusual river beach located under a highway with picnic areas and umbrellas

The Costa del Sol is known for its wonderful beaches and for being one of the great tourist centers in all of Spain. Towns like Marbella, Fuengirola, Torremolinos, and Estepona are packed every summer with tourists eager to enjoy the Mediterranean waters. However, in the south of the province of Málaga, there are also less crowded gems that are ideal for a few days during the summer, such as Manilva, located almost on the border with Cádiz.

This municipality, located in the western part of Málaga, has several towns perfect for relaxing in the summer, such as San Luis de Sabinillas. It also hides wonderful treasures that many are unaware of and offer an extraordinary alternative for those who don't want to be by the sea. A clear example of this is Charca de La Mina, an extraordinary river beach located at a very peculiar spot.

La Charca de La Mina is one of the most unusual river beaches in Spain. Unlike other beaches like Moreras in Valladolid, it's located in a very unusual location: right under the AP-7 highway, creating a very unique setting. Although it may be somewhat repulsive to many, it's actually a perfect place to cool off during the summer without having to travel to the sandy beaches bathed by the Mediterranean.

This wonderful beach, fed by the Manilva River, has been recently renovated so that all residents of the town and those interested in visiting can enjoy a wonderful afternoon of swimming and relaxing. It also has umbrellas to protect you from the scorching summer sun in southern Spain, as well as picnic areas where you can recharge your batteries.

It's located very close to the town center of Manilva , just a half-hour walk or a five-minute drive away (in fact, there's a parking lot just a few meters away). La Mina Pond is also largely surrounded by trees and lush nature, so for most of the time, visitors don't even notice the highway rising several meters above them while they're in the water.
