The Zaragoza monastery where the final of 'Traitors Spain' was filmed and where you can stay overnight.

Traitors España is coming to an end after eight episodes aired on Antena 3. The format, which adapts the eponymous program that originated in the Netherlands and was popularized by the BBC in the United Kingdom, has been much discussed on social media over the past few weeks, with many users not hesitating to highlight the impressive location where both the finale and the rest of the episodes were filmed , and for good reason: the spectacular Monasterio de Piedra, located in the province of Zaragoza.
This extraordinary monastery is not only one of the main wonders of the autonomous community of Aragon, but also one of the most sublime places to visit both in Spain and throughout Europe. Built almost a millennium ago, this sublime place is surrounded by mystery and a setting straight out of a fairy tale. It's no surprise, then, that the Traitors España production team chose it to film the program, as the enigmatic, almost Gothic atmosphere that surrounds it impacts those who visit... and those who sleep there.
The Piedra Monastery, home of traitors and faithful
To trace the origins of the Piedra Monastery, we must go back to the time when the Muslims ruled the Iberian Peninsula. At the site where the monastery stands today, they built a castle that was completely transformed in the 12th century, during the Reconquista. Alfonso II of Aragon donated the fort to the Cistercian Order, who completely renovated the complex into a majestic convent.
Built during an architectural transition between Romanesque and Gothic styles (something evident in most corners of the monastery), this magical place was inhabited for six centuries by Cistercian monks until the Mendizábal confiscation took place in 1835. Despite being almost in ruins, the monastery survived thanks to the Muntadas brothers, who brought it back to life and turned it into a film (and television) set.

With their vision, this monastery, where the first hot chocolate was made (since the first shipment of cocoa from America arrived there) was converted into a wonderful hotel where anyone can spend the night in the purest Traitors Spain style. The brothers also took advantage of the majestic surroundings of the convent to create an idyllic oasis full of waterfalls, streams and caves.
In the eponymous natural park, those who book a hotel room (for about 150 euros per night for two people) and those who visit this fascinating place can enjoy stunning waterfalls fed by the waters of the Piedra River, as well as landscapes teeming with vegetation. This wonderful enclave holds countless natural secrets that everyone can discover if they have the opportunity.
Throughout the eight episodes of Traitors España , both in the scenes filmed inside the convent walls and in the magnificent exteriors, Antena 3 viewers have been able to discover sublime corners of the Piedra Monastery. The monastery was severely damaged by the Dana last October, but has now reopened, and those who wish to do so can visit and marvel at its treasures.
