A 25-year-old man stabbed a teenager and turned himself in.

A 25-year-old man stabbed a teenager and turned himself in.

According to Junior Sergeant Kamil Wójcik , spokesman for the Tarnów Municipal Police Headquarters, a man suspected of stabbing a teenager reported to the Tarnów Centrum police station on Sunday morning.

"He was officially arrested at 3:30 a.m.," the officer said. The man was sober at the time of his arrest. He is currently being held in a police detention center, where he is awaiting questioning, which, police emphasize, is scheduled for the same day.

The victim of the attack was immediately transported to the hospital, where doctors provided him with the necessary assistance. The 17-year-old's condition is not life-threatening, but due to the strong painkillers he was taking, officers were still unable to interview him. "Our findings indicate that this was a violent attack without a clear cause," emphasizes Junior Asst. Wójcik.

The aggressor attacked without warning

The incident occurred on Katedralna Street on Friday evening. According to previous reports, a group of young people were heading towards the market square when an unknown man approached from the opposite direction. The situation escalated rapidly.

The man began harassing the youths, shouting insulting comments at them. Police reports indicate that there was a brief exchange between him and the youths, but it didn't constitute a serious conflict. Then, however, something unexpected happened: the man suddenly pulled out a knife and attacked one of the teenagers, stabbing him in the stomach.

Although the attack took place in a public space, close to the heart of the city, the perpetrator managed to escape. Witnesses called emergency services, who quickly provided aid to the injured boy.

Unknown motives, known consequences

At this stage of the investigation, the attacker's motives have not been determined. Police are not ruling out any version of events, but investigators emphasize that there is no indication that the victim knew the perpetrator.

"Our findings indicate that this was a violent attack without any apparent cause," says Junior Asp. Kamil Wójcik. It is precisely this unpredictability and randomness of the attack that particularly concerns the city's residents.
The city is responding. More patrols are being deployed downtown.

In response to this brutal incident, Tarnów authorities decided to immediately take steps to increase security in the city center. Additional police and municipal guard patrols were deployed to the streets, particularly around the market square and Katedralna Street. Law enforcement officers will not only monitor the situation but also be present in areas where young people are most likely to be.

The increased number of patrols is the first step towards improving safety in this part of Tarnów. City officials also announced an analysis of existing preventive measures and the possibility of implementing further measures that could reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future.
