For the best viewing conditions, it is worth going to a place with a good view of the horizon and minimal light pollution. Dr. Edward Bloomer, an astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, emphasizes that good atmospheric conditions and visibility of the horizon will be key to a successful observation .
Which planets will be visible?During this special event, seven planets will appear in the sky: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Four of them – Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and Mars – will be visible to the naked eye . Saturn will be a bit harder to see, as it will be low on the horizon. To see Uranus and Neptune, you will need to use a telescope or good binoculars.
How to prepare for observation?Dr Bloomer recommends giving your eyes time to dark-adapt before you start observing: "If you go outside, you need time to adjust to the light levels. Give yourself some time - it takes your eyes about half an hour to fully adjust." Avoid looking at your phone screen and find a spot with an unobstructed view of the horizon.
When is the next opportunity like this?This configuration of planets happens very rarely. The next chance to observe all seven planets at once will not appear until May 19, 2161. Therefore, it is worth taking advantage of the opportunity and admiring this unique phenomenon now.
