Father of 9-year-old Canadian girl who reported daughter's kidnapping in New York charged with murder

The father of a 9-year-old Canadian girl whose body was found late last week in upstate New York has been arrested. The 45-year-old has been charged with murdering his daughter. The 9-year-old was initially wanted after an alleged kidnapping reported by a suspect. After the Canadian girl's body was found, investigators told the media that the 45-year-old "was getting lost in his statements," raising suspicions that he might be responsible for the child's disappearance and death.
A report of a missing 9-year-old Canadian girl was received by Warren County Emergency Services around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19. The report was from the girl's father, 45-year-old Luciano Frattolin, who reported his daughter's abduction near Exit 22 of I-87.
The 9-year-old's body was found a day later – on Sunday, July 20, at approximately 1:50 p.m. The body was found in the shallow part of a pond in Ticonderoga. Investigators determined that the girl died as a result of homicide. An autopsy on the 9-year-old's body revealed the cause of death to be asphyxiation due to drowning.
Frattolin was charged with the child's murder, having aroused investigators' suspicions during the search for the 9-year-old. The 45-year-old allegedly made inaccurate statements and errors in the chronology of events when describing his daughter's alleged abduction.
Frattolin was charged with second-degree murder and concealing a corpse.
The New York State Police are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the 45-year-old man and his daughter traveling in a 2024 Toyota Prius between July 11 and 19. Witnesses are asked to contact 518-873-2750.
