FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim. The beginning of lean years?
In the current quarter of a century, we could be sure that when the World Championships in Nordic skiing started, we would be happy to see a Pole on the podium. A new, wonderful era in this sport began in 2001 in Lahti with Adam Małysz. He won gold and silver, thus ending 23 years of medal drought after the successes - also in Lahti - of the runner Józef Łuszczek.
There was a jumper from Wisła, then Justyna Kowalczyk came, in the second decade Kamil Stoch shot off, and after him Dawid Kubacki, Piotr Żyła. You could always count on someone, if not individually then in the team. In the 21st century, only once did the Polish national team in classic skiing return from the world championships without a medal. In 2005, Małysz had a weaker season and in Oberstdorf he took sixth place on the normal hill and 11th on the large hill. But that was just an accident at work.
