Horrific accident at pedestrian crossing. Driver will not be arrested.
On Wednesday, August 13th, Mariusz J. was brought to the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw, where he was charged. Investigators determined that the 47-year-old had no prior convictions for speeding, and at the time of the accident, the pedestrians had a green light, while the driver ran a red light.

What did the prosecutor's office find?According to the prosecutor's office, the driver deliberately violated road safety regulations by failing to exercise due caution when approaching a pedestrian crossing and failing to yield to a group of pedestrians crossing the marked crossing. Andrzej Piaseczny from the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw told TVN 24 that Mariusz J. was unable to explain the cause of the accident. He claimed he braked before the crossing and then provided aid to the injured after the accident, a claim confirmed by witnesses.
Why wasn't the driver arrested after the fatal accident?Following the hearing, the prosecutor decided to impose non-custodial measures against the suspect. Mariusz J. was placed under police supervision, banned from leaving the country, and posted a 40,000 PLN bail. As the prosecutor's office representative emphasized, the man had no prior criminal record and had no convictions for speeding.
According to current findings, the accident occurred while pedestrians were crossing a marked crosswalk on a green light. The driver, who had a red light, failed to stop and struck four people. All victims were taken to hospital, but two died, including a 72-year-old woman.
The man will be held responsible for causing an accident resulting in the death of two people, which is an act under Article 177, paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Penal Code.
