Police arrest Long Island bomber who planted explosives on rooftops and train tracks in NYC

A 55-year-old man from Inwood, Long Island, was charged with attempted destruction of property with explosives and unlawful possession of explosive devices. Investigators say he constructed at least seven homemade bombs, most of which he placed in various parts of New York City, endangering the lives and health of many people.

Michael Gann was arrested last month in SoHo. FBI and NYPD officers recovered five homemade explosive devices placed on the roofs of residential buildings. A sixth device was found on the subway tracks on the Williamsburg Bridge.

According to the New York Police Department, the devices contained explosives "600 times more powerful than a regular firecracker." An investigation revealed that the suspect had been researching bomb-making information online.

Police discovered the 55-year-old man after he ordered components for explosives online. The order was shipped to a home in Nassau County, where a friend of the suspect's mother lives. The man told investigators that he allowed Gann to send mail and packages to his address.

After the charges were placed, Gann posted a coded message on Instagram. "Who wants me to go out and party like there's no tomorrow?" he wrote on social media.

No one was injured as a result of the suspect's actions. Investigators are currently investigating his motives.
