This is about the intersection of national road no. 81, the popular "Wiślanka" with provincial road no. 944. For a long time, there have been traffic jams there, which are troublesome both for residents and people traveling through Skoczów to the mountains or towards Katowice . There is no shortage of collisions and accidents.
Several years ago, local government authorities decided that the best solution to this problem would be to build a large viaduct. Then, transit traffic would be routed without collisions at the top, while local traffic would be routed at the bottom - through a planned roundabout.
Agreement between the city and GDDKiA. The project was commissioned 4 years agoThe city reached a preliminary agreement on this matter with the Ministry of Infrastructure and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, which manages national roads, including the aforementioned DK81. Most of the construction costs were to be borne by GDDKiA, while Skoczów was to finance the design documentation as part of its own contribution.
Already in 2021, the then mayor Mirosław Sitko signed a contract for the development of a technical design for PLN 1.7 million , and the general directorate secured approximately PLN 120 million for construction. Unfortunately, the topic went quiet for several years and only at the end of the previous term of office did Mayor Sitko show the current visualizations of the viaduct.
