New plan: PLN 60,000 tax-free amount, but not for everyone

- Donald Tusk's government promised to increase the tax-free amount to PLN 60,000 as part of "100 promises for 100 days"
- In turn, during the presidential campaign, candidate Rafał Trzaskowski declared that this would be his first decision after taking office as president.
- According to Deputy Finance Minister Jarosław Neneman, the ministry is considering various scenarios and options, as reported by WNP
- Sławomir Ćwik, a tax expert and member of the Third Way party, presented his own idea regarding the tax-free amount.
- In an interview with WNP, he admitted that his idea included the exemption of PLN 60,000 from taxation for a taxpayer who has at least one child to raise.
As WNP reminds, raising the tax-free amount from the current PLN 30,000 to PLN 60,000 is one of the unfulfilled election promises of Donald Tusk's government. During the presidential campaign, candidate Rafał Trzaskowski declared that this would be the first decision after taking office as president.
The CIS asked Deputy Finance Minister Jarosław Neneman about these issues while attending the Tax Council Congress on June 10. However, his answers were evasive. He stated, among other things, that the Ministry of Finance is considering various scenarios and options for increasing the tax-free amount, but he did not want to provide any specifics.
He also did not confirm that the higher tax-free amount would be in force from January 2026. - We are working in the government on various solutions - Deputy Minister Neneman told the CIS.
According to unofficial findings by the WNP, the Ministry of Finance was to work on a bill that was to be submitted as a presidential bill after Rafał Trzaskowski's victory in the presidential elections. The WNP informant reported that the assumptions were that the bill would primarily meet the expectations of the conservative part of Poles.
An idea for the benefit of families. "We are facing a demographic catastrophe"In turn, a similar, original idea for increasing the tax-free amount is also shared by lawyer, tax expert and MP from Trzeci Droga (Poland 2050) Sławomir Ćwik.
According to MP Ćwik, the increased tax-free amount to PLN 60,000 should only apply to taxpayers who raise children . - We are facing a demographic catastrophe and we need systemic solutions that would support parenthood and having children - MP Ćwik emphasized in an interview with WNP.
On the other hand, the exemption of PLN 60,000 from taxation - according to the idea of the WNP interlocutor - would be available to a taxpayer who has at least one child to raise. According to the idea of MP Ćwik, parents settling taxes separately would establish among themselves and declare to the tax office who of them would receive the aforementioned amount of PLN 30,000.
According to the MP, this type of solution is not unfair to people who do not have children , because "it is in the interest of the entire society to take care of families with children, because in the future these children will work for our pensions".
The MP pointed out in an interview with WNP that while raising the tax-free amount, the first tax threshold, which has been in force since 2022 and currently stands at PLN 120,000 per year, should also be shifted. Ćwik suggests that the current amount of PLN 120,000 should be indexed to PLN 150,000 per year for all taxpayers, regardless of whether they have children . He noted that this is the result of rising earnings, which was contributed to by high inflation.
