Shocking architectural creation in Europe. For many it is the ugliest in the world

Architectural styles have their own rules and change over the years. There are many unique building phenomena on a global scale that are known almost everywhere today, such as the Eiffel Tower or the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Each of them is admired by millions of tourists and photographed on a large scale. There are also buildings that arouse controversy and are even considered the ugliest in the world. This description applies primarily to the National Library in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo.
The ugliest building in the worldThe title of the ugliest building in the world is attributed to the one in Pristina for many reasons. According to some, it is enough to look at the photos to understand such an opinion. The building is gray, overwhelming, and at the same time huge and has a very non-obvious construction in the brutalist style.
The concrete structure of the National Library consists of a dozen or so cubes placed irregularly one on top of the other. That's not all. The whole thing is surrounded by something like a metal grid, and on the roof of the building we will see as many as 99 glass domes. This construction is the result of the innovative idea of the architect Andrija Mutnjaković. The place is still used and is full of life. Inside we will find two amphitheatrical halls - one with 150 seats and the other with 75 seats, a reading room with 600 seats, as well as a separate reading room for magazines and rooms for scientists to work.
Although the building may undoubtedly seem ugly, there are also those who consider it a pearl of brutalism. The uniqueness of this city was emphasized by, among others, architect Bekim Ramu from the Kosovo Architecture Foundation. "In the art of brutalism, Kosovo has come the furthest," he described. Many architects did not agree with him, believing that there should be no place for such construction. Moreover, when dignitaries accepted the building, upon seeing the metal mesh, they allegedly asked why the scaffolding had not been removed.
Some may wonder whether, since there is such a daunting object in the capital of Kosovo, we should go there at all. It turns out that Pristina can charm and impress. It is located in the Dinaric Alps, in the Kosovo Pole basin and is full of picturesque views. In addition, it is also a center of trade and crafts.
When in the capital of Kosovo, it is worth visiting, among others, the Boulevard of Mother Teresa, a place full of social life and flourishing trade. The center of the Old Town is also impressive, with interesting monuments, such as the clock tower. In the area you will find the Kosovo Museum and the modern monument NEWBORN, symbolizing the independence of Kosovo.
