Tourist took a photo of a beach in Gdańsk. He was reported to the police

What can make a seaside vacation unpleasant? In many cases, bad weather, an uncomfortable place to stay or noisy beachgoers. It turns out that sometimes a photo heralds a problem. This is proven by a tourist staying at the Gdańsk-Brzeźno beach.
An embarrassing beach photoThe situation occurred at the end of April. One of the tourists took a photo on the pier in Brzeźno. He captured the Port of Gdansk, which is marked with a new sign prohibiting photography. Then, for fun and provocation, he allowed his friends to report to the police. The idea was not to get down on himself, but to ridicule the services and expose the rules, which in his opinion should not work in their current form.
After the tourist took the photo, he wrote a statement about the place, date of the photo and awareness that it was prohibited. He sent the statement to the administrator of the @Stop Cham Warszawa tiktok profile, who forwarded it to the Pomeranian police along with a notification of suspicion of committing an offense under Article 683a of the Public Procurement Law. It is known that the officers took up the case and summoned the man for questioning.
"We will ridicule you. Our colleague, with our help, will pursue his rights before all instances, up to the Constitutional Tribunal, as part of a constitutional complaint. The ban from martial law is inconsistent with the Constitution of the Republic of Poland. It will be fun and the fall of the remnants of the government's authority," the administrator of @Stop Cham Warsaw commented on the matter.

They warn other touristsThis action and situation can be a warning to other people vacationing in Gdańsk in Brzeźno. It turns out that sometimes ordinary rest can expose us to danger. "Be careful where you take pictures, because due to new regulations you may have to report to the police station at 9 a.m. on a working day," we read in the post @Stop Cham Warszawa.
On April 17, 2025, a new ban on photography came into force, as specified in Article 616a of the Homeland Defense Act. The regulations state that it is prohibited to take pictures of objects subject to the Ministry of National Defense, critical infrastructure, and other objects important for the security or defense of the state. Violation of the bans may result in, among other things, a fine, criminal proceedings, or confiscation of photographic equipment.
It's not just in Gdańsk that you need to be careful. The new ban covers over 25,000 places across the country.
