Biowaste collection project is expanded throughout the municipality
In 2024, under the motto “+VALUE, Together we will generate more value for the environment”, around 112 tonnes of organic waste were collected in the municipality, delivered to Resinorte for treatment. This year, driven by the goal of implementing the actions to be developed by the municipality, within the scope of compliance with the national strategy for urban solid waste (PAPERSU), two applications have already been approved and financed, by Norte 2030 and the Environmental Fund, to ensure full coverage of the municipality in the collection of bio-waste.
To this end, waste collection containers were purchased and have already been placed on the streets and distributed to homes by the company with extensive experience in the area, BioRumo. The corporation will also be responsible for communicating information to residents, door to door, usually in the late afternoon or early morning, when this coincides with Saturdays. The project also includes a study for the implementation of the PAYT (pay as you throw) system in the urban area.
Being considered an example to follow in the implementation of selective collection of bio-waste, this type of initiative reinforces the dedication of the Municipality of Lamego to waste management, an activity of extreme importance for the environment and for the municipality, as highlighted in the statement: “Separating bio-waste is fundamental for environmental sustainability, as it allows its valorization through recycling and production of renewable energy, reducing the volume of waste sent to landfill”.
