DOIS Magazine: fourth issue aborts multiculturalism

It accommodates people from Portugal, France, England, India, Sudan, Ukraine, China and many more. Showing how the Algarve is a region where several cultures meet is the main objective of yet another edition of DOIS, a project by the regional newspaper Sul Informação .
Therefore, in the various reports, in the profile, in the in-depth interview, we spoke to people “who, having been born in other parts of the world, now live in the Algarve and strive to make it a better and more prosperous region”, as explained by director Elisabete Rodrigues, in the editorial.
And there are people from all backgrounds : “whether they are people of the most varied nationalities who come here in search of work or peace, whether they are wealthy foreigners who do not consider themselves immigrants but expats , or even Portuguese people from other parts of the country”.
The magazine opens with an interview with artist Xana who, although not from the Algarve, has lived here for many decades. He is also on the cover of this year's DOIS.
One of the main reports is entitled “The world fits in these classrooms” and provides an overview of how there are people of different nationalities at all levels of public and private education.
From a researcher from Sudan who chose the University of Algarve (UAlg) to do his doctorate, to a private school that welcomes students from several countries, and to a public school that has a specific project to welcome students – and families – from distant latitudes.
«We also found out how several sportspeople – including footballers, a bodyboarder and handball players – chose the Algarve to launch their careers. In some cases, the love was so great that they stayed here. And we also have a report dedicated to the numerous associations that are dedicated precisely to helping welcome families who come to the Algarve», reveals the editorial team, in a note sent to Barlavento.
Then, DOIS went looking for a life story of someone who, as an immigrant, decided that he had a mission to help those who, like him, decided to come to the Algarve. This is David Thomas, a British man, medallist of the Crown, who created the association Safe Communities Portugal .
This time, we have two women as guest columnists – Adriana Freire Nogueira, university professor and former regional director of Culture in the Algarve, and Tela Leão, cultural programmer and mentor of the Festa dos Anos de Álvaro dos Campos, in Tavira, one of Fernando Pessoa's heteronyms.
As usual, the magazine once again has a strong lifestyle component, with tips on restaurants to go to, places to visit and places to visit. This time, we focus mainly on the many external influences we have.
DOIS magazine is on sale in the usual places throughout the Algarve, as well as in Greater Lisbon and Greater Porto and in the district capitals.
It can still be ordered here .
