Lizzie Borden case could be the focus of season 4 of 'Monsters' on Netflix
Even before the premiere of the third season of Monsters , Netflix is already working behind the scenes to develop the fourth part of the anthology created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan . According to sources at Deadline , the new season will delve into the famous case of Lizzie Borden — a woman tried and acquitted of the axe murders of her father and stepmother in 1892, in the city of Fall River, Massachusetts.
Casting for the lead role is underway, and filming is expected to begin in the fall (between September and December). Netflix, however, has not officially commented on the production.
Murphy and Brennan 's approach to Monsters has been notable for revisiting previously explored crimes from fresh perspectives. This was the case with the second season, Monsters: The Menendez Brothers: Their Parents' Killers , which reignited public debate over the conviction of the Menendez brothers, accused of murdering their parents in the 1990s.
The franchise began with the overwhelming success of Dahmer: An American Cannibal , which remains among the top five most-watched English-language series in the platform's history. The third season, titled The Original Monster , stars Charlie Hunnam ( Sons of Anarchy ) as Ed Gein.
