The Vilar de Ferreiros Interpretation Centre has now opened
The inauguration took place this Saturday, in an initiative that brought together the local community in a festive atmosphere.
It operates in the building of the Vilar de Ferreiros Parish Council and represented an investment of just over 220 thousand euros, supported by PRODER with an amount of around 152 thousand euros and by the municipality of Mondim de Basto, with an amount of 75 thousand euros.
The Mayor of Mondim de Basto, Bruno Ferreira, considers that the “Vilar de Ferreiros Interpretation and Nature Tourism Centre”, in addition to enhancing the parish's cultural heritage, will serve as a starting point and support for sports and nature tourism activities, and is properly equipped with the necessary conditions to hold various events”.
This new interpretation space “promotes the natural and touristic cultural heritage”, with emphasis on the promotion of the “Levadas do Alvão”, nature sports and ethnographic values that are well representative of the identity of this parish. The infrastructure also has a space designed to welcome visitors and tourists, social and cultural initiatives or training courses.
The president of the Vilar de Ferreiros Parish Council, Paulo Portilha, stresses that “this Interpretation Centre aims to be a space for preserving and enhancing the natural, cultural and ethnographic heritage of our parish, but also for economic dynamism through attracting tourists to the parish and the municipality”.
The inauguration of the “Vilar de Ferreiros Interpretation and Nature Tourism Centre” was blessed by Father João Castanheira and featured performances by groups and associations from the parish (Zés Pereiras groups, folk groups and choral and cavaquinho groups), who joined in this “great moment” for the community, presenting guests with lively performances, demonstrating the “joy and dynamism” of the population of the parish of Vilar de Ferreiros.
