Vila Real guarantees international competitions for another three years

Vila Real guarantees international competitions for another three years

At the end of the 54th edition of the Vila Real International Circuit, Mayor Alexandre Favaios made a “positive assessment” of the three days of car racing and the concerts that took place in the city, and took the opportunity to announce that an understanding in principle had been reached with the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour that will enable the return of this international event in the next three years.

This event, which took place this year in the city of Trás-os-Montes, replaces the World Touring Car Cup.

Between Friday and today, there were national and international car races, entertainment and business in Vila Real, with hotels full and restaurants and cafes full.

Alexandre Favaios said that this was a “full house” weekend and, despite the high temperatures, many people spread out along the circuit or in the stands to watch the races.

“Everyone had the opportunity to see good races and feel the adrenaline and spirit of what our circuit is, of what it means to be from Vila Real”, he highlighted.

According to the mayor, citing data from the PSP, there were around “40 to 45 thousand people” at the concert by the English band James on Saturday night alone on Avenida Carvalho Araújo.

The Vila Real races had their first motorsport event in 1931 and have been held uninterruptedly since 2014.

The 2025 edition coincided with the celebration of 100 years since Vila Real became a city.
