Canoas hosts the 14th edition of the Popular Theater Festival

The 14th edition of the Popular Theater Festival (Festia) began on Monday (8), at Sesc Canoas, located at Avenida Guilherme Schell, 5340, Centro neighborhood. The event offers the public nine free shows in various parts of the city, the full program can be found on the festival website and on the official Instagram. Most activities are free of charge.

At the opening ceremony, the Black Cat Trophy, created by artist João Máximo, was presented to the Panapaná collective from Canoas. Following this, at 3 p.m., the show "Vasalisa, the Wise" by the Catarse Collective | Ventre Livre Cultural Center was presented. The festival is sponsored by Grupo TIA and Casa da TIA, a Cultural Center, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, the federal government, and the City of Canoas, with funding from the Aldir Blanc National Policy.

Tuesday (10)

3 pm - Black, Black, Little Black in The Chest of Stories, by Duda Máximo, at EMEF Santos Dumont (Niterói neighborhood). Free classification, with a sign language interpreter.

7pm - Slam Entrevebo, at EEEM São Francisco de Assis (Mathias Velho Neighborhood). Rated 14 years old, with accessibility in Libras.

Wednesday (11)

3 pm - The Magic of Bubbles, by JOB Soluções Culturais, at EMEF Paulo Freire (Guajuviras Neighborhood). All ages, with a sign language interpreter.

7:30 pm - Carolina and Other Voices, by the Trupi di Trapu Group, at the EEEM André Leão Puente (Center).

Thursday (12)

3:00 PM - Circus Reruns, research by the Clown, the Stage, and the Street Study Group, at the Pestalozzi Association. All ages, with a sign language interpreter.

8pm - Closing at Sesc Canoas, with the show Habite-me, by artist Carolina Garcia.

For young actor João Arthur Carvalho Levandoscki, a participant in the TIA Project, theater transformed his way of expressing himself. "I lost my shyness, improved my way of speaking, and today I'm much happier. I've been doing theater for a year, at my cousin's invitation, and it changed my life."

Festia coordinator and TIA Group director Marcelo Militão highlighted the festival's inclusive nature, saying, "Our goal is to ensure access to culture for all social classes. That's why many shows are free."

The Secretary of Culture and Tourism, Caio Flávio dos Santos, reinforced the importance of partnerships for the event, "Bringing happiness through art makes all the difference in the culture of Canoas and strengthens the bonds of cooperation between artists and the community."
