PSD forms coalition with CDS-PP and PPM for Évora City Council

PSD forms coalition with CDS-PP and PPM for Évora City Council

The PSD candidacy for the Évora City Council in the local elections on October 12, led by Henrique Sim-Sim, allied itself with the CDS-PP and the PPM, giving rise to the AD coalition — Évora has a better future, it was announced this Friday.

In a statement, the social-democratic council of Évora, chaired by Henrique Sim-Sim, indicated that the PSD and the CDS-PP formalized, on Thursday, the political agreement for the 2025 local elections in this municipality.

“The PSD and CDS-PP are also joined by the PPM [Popular Monarchist Party], thus forming the composition of the original AD [Democratic Alliance],” he added.

Quoted in the statement, Henrique Sim-Sim considered that “this is a natural political coalition that aims to join forces to present a winning municipal project” to the Évora City Council, currently managed by the CDU.

“We have been working together for four years and it makes perfect sense to renew the coalition for 2025, even considering the national framework in which PSD and CDS-PP have also been working together”, he stressed.

Highlighting the AD's victory in this year's legislative elections in the municipality of Évora, the leader of this coalition stressed that this result shows that “an alternative for Évora is possible” and pointed out that, this time, it is “to win the local elections”.

Filipa Perdigão, leader of the Évora Council of the CDS-PP, also mentioned in the statement, highlighted that the council “really needs a change” and that, to achieve this, it is necessary to “join efforts, concentrate votes so that this project is successful”.

In addition to Henrique Sim-Sim, João Oliveira (CDU), Carlos Zorrinho (PS), Florbela Fernandes (Care for Évora Movement), Ruben Miguéis (Chega) and Bruno Martins (Left Bloc) are also running for the Évora City Council.

The Liberal Initiative announced in January of this year that it would run for the first time in this municipality in this year's local elections, but, until now, it has not released the name of the top candidate.

The current executive, chaired by Carlos Pinto de Sá, who cannot run again for this municipality as he is serving his third and final term, is made up of two elected members from the CDU, two from the PS, two from the PSD and one from the Movimento Cuidar de Évora.

The CDS-PP National Council approved, on Thursday night, more than 30 coalition agreements for the next local elections, most of them with the PSD, an official party source told Lusa.

The list includes coalition agreements between the CDS-PP and the PSD, the Liberal Initiative, these three parties together, with Nós, Cidadãos! and also the PSD, CDS-PP and PPM.
