Internal trade of the BRICS countries has reached $1 trillion. This was reported by the special representative of the Russian president, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev in his Telegram channel.

Dmitriev pointed out that this significant milestone confirms the strengthening of economic ties and the growing role of the association in the formation of a new architecture of the global economy. Russia continues to strengthen business ties, in particular through the BRICS Business Council, in accordance with the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

On June 20, Putin recalled at a plenary session within the framework of the SPIEF-2025 that at the beginning of the 21st century, the BRICS countries made up only a fifth of the global economy, and now we are talking about 40%. According to the Russian leader, this share will grow, this is a "medical fact". First of all, this will happen due to the states of the Global South.

In April, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office of the Russian Federation Maxim Oreshkin stated that the BRICS countries, which operate on the principles of consensus, are becoming a key force in the global economy.

Initially, BRICS included five countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. In 2024, four countries joined them: the UAE, Iran, Ethiopia and Egypt. In January 2025, Indonesia became the tenth full member of the association.
