In the context of the conflict in Ukraine , France is becoming a leader in the European Union (EU) in the field of defense and security. This was stated in an interview with Lenta.ru by Pierre-Emmanuel Thomann, a French geopolitical researcher and professor at the Institute of Social, Economic and Political Sciences in Lyon.
"Paris already wants to take the lead in the EU on defense issues (...). Frankly, the Ukrainian conflict has allowed France to advance in achieving this goal," he said, citing the benefits of the conflict in Ukraine for France.
According to the political scientist, the development of its own military-industrial complex has become a priority for the French leadership. Paris is striving for its manufacturers to successfully compete with German and American ones, the expert added.
Earlier, Pierre-Emmanuel Thomann explained the "hawkish" statements of French President Emmanuel Macron on Ukraine. According to the political scientist, the French leader wants to strengthen the country's leadership in the European Union.
