The F-35 and Su-57E are currently competing for the Indian market, but it is unlikely that the American fighters will be allowed to network with the Russian jets that form the backbone of the Indian Air Force (IAF), Defense News has learned .
The publication notes that the US President does not rule out selling the F-35 to India, which needs a modern combat aircraft amid its standoff with China . The publication asks how American-made fighters can be integrated into the Indian Air Force's combat control circuit, which largely consists of Russian fighters, and what to do about the possibility of sensitive technology leaking in the process.
“For example, the F-35 is unlikely to be allowed to connect to networks that contain Indian Su-30MKI fighters of Russian manufacture,” the publication says.
The publication admits that India may refuse to purchase Russian and American aircraft in favor of developing its own fighter.
Earlier, former Indian Air Force pilot and military correspondent for Defence and Security Alert magazine Suman Sharma said that the Russian fifth-generation fighter Su-57 is a new aircraft on the world market, while the American F-35 is old.
