GENEVA, July 12 - RIA Novosti. The memorandum signed in 2022 between Russia and the UN on the export of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers will not be extended after July 22, 2025, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin told Russian journalists in Geneva. "This document was signed three years ago as part of a larger agreement, which also includes issues of navigation in the Black Sea, and its term expires at the end of July. The memorandum was concluded without providing for its extension. We have not even talked about an extension now," he said. Vershinin added that during the final round of consultations in Geneva on July 11, the parties discussed what they managed to do and what they failed to do, and how they could continue to work on these pressing tasks and issues. "We have gained useful experience communicating with UN representatives on very important parameters of food security. In fact, this memorandum was conceived as a basis for joint efforts so that Russia, as the largest supplier to the world market of food and fertilizers, could freely, without any restrictions contribute to food security in the world. We held many rounds of consultations, and the agenda was extensive," the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation emphasized. The Black Sea Grain Initiative, which was signed on July 22, 2022, by representatives of Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the UN, envisaged the export of Ukrainian grain, food and fertilizers via the Black Sea from three ports, including Odessa. The initiative was an integral part of a package agreement. The second part - the Russia-UN memorandum, designed for three years - provided for the unblocking of Russian exports of food and fertilizers, reconnection of Rosselkhozbank to SWIFT, resumption of deliveries of agricultural machinery, spare parts and service, restoration of the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline and a number of other measures. Russia withdrew from the initiative in July 2023. Russian authorities have repeatedly noted that the Kiev regime has used the deal to carry out attacks and provocations against Russian ships and coastal infrastructure facilities under the guise of the humanitarian corridor. In addition, promises to normalize access of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to the world market have not been fulfilled.
