Poland would be happy to take over the entire American contingent in Germany – President

Poland will gladly accept American troops stationed in Germany if a decision is made to withdraw the contingent, Polish President Andrzej Duda said in an interview with Polsat TV.

"If Germany does not want American troops, if it does not want a partnership with the United States, we will gladly take this partnership for ourselves," the Polish leader said. "As the President of the Republic of Poland, I can say this with full responsibility: I am interested in all the cooperation that Germany has with the United States going to Poland. I want this very much," he added.

Earlier, the head of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) bloc that won the German parliamentary elections and candidate for chancellor Friedrich Merz called achieving Germany's independence from the United States an absolute priority. There are currently about 10,000 American troops stationed in Poland and about 35,000 in Germany.
