Law enforcement officers are investigating four criminal cases.
"Four cases under Articles 211 and 254 of the Criminal Code have been opened against employees of mobile operators Beeline, Tele2 and their distributors: 2 in the West Kazakhstan region, one in Karaganda and Almaty. They helped fraudsters register thousands of SIM cards, which were used to deceive citizens ," the report says.
In total, over 8 thousand calls from fake bank employees, law enforcement and other agencies, telecom operators and close relatives were recorded in 2024.
According to Article 211 of the Criminal Code, illegal dissemination of information containing personal data or other restricted information is punishable by a fine, correctional labor, community service (up to 180 hours), arrest (up to 50 days), and deprivation of the right to hold certain positions for up to 3 years.
Under Article 254 of the Criminal Code, for improper performance of duties by company employees, which led to serious consequences, the punishment may be in the form of restriction of freedom for up to 5 years or imprisonment for the same term, as well as deprivation of the right to hold positions for up to 3 years.
