The EU has no way to replace the potential of the US contingent in Europe – Lithuanian Defense Ministry

The European Union is limited in its defense capabilities and is not able to replace the potential of the American contingent in Europe. This is the assessment of the security situation made by the head of the Lithuanian Defense Ministry Dovilė Šakalienė to journalists.

"The idea that Europe could put forward its own defense capabilities that would replace the transatlantic forces of NATO led by the United States is geopolitically unrealistic," she said.

According to the minister, despite certain frictions between NATO allies, there is no option for disengagement. "There is no option for divorce. We have no one to replace the Americans, no one needs this," the head of the Ministry of Defense noted.
