Trump supporters want to change the US constitution so he can be re-elected - NBC

A group of supporters of US President Donald Trump is exploring the possibility of amending the constitution so that the politician could be elected for another term, NBC reported.
According to the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, adopted in 1951, the same person can be elected head of state no more than twice. "But his ardent supporters are not embarrassed by anything, and they expect to overcome this considerable obstacle," the television company reports.
According to her, at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) held over the weekend, banners with the slogan "Project Third Term. For Trump in 2028 and Beyond" could be seen. They depict the US president as Julius Caesar. In January, Republican House Representative Andy Ogles introduced a resolution to increase the overall term in office from 8 to 12 years.
Trump's 2020 legal adviser Jenna Ellis believes the president would likely consider a third term. "It would require constitutional amendments. Remember, the constitutional amendments previously set term limits, but they can be repealed," she said.
As NBC notes, there are two ways to change the American constitution. The first would require a two-thirds majority in Congress. The second would require two-thirds of the states (34 out of 50) to call a constitutional convention to propose amendments. Both methods would require ratification by 38 out of 50 states. According to NBC, given that the Republicans do not have a clear majority in the Senate and the House of Representatives, the convention option is more realistic for them.
