Satanism cannot be legalized in a state based on traditional values, Vakhtang Kipshidze, deputy chairman of the Synodal Department of the Moscow Patriarchate for Church-Society Relations and the Media, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He was asked to comment on the proposal of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation to recognize Satanism as an extremist movement. Earlier, the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov had filed a lawsuit to recognize the International Satanism Movement as extremist and ban it in Russia.

According to Kipshitse, the position of the Russian Orthodox Church is that Satanism cannot be legal in any state that proclaims traditional values as the basis of its identity.

Therefore, he said, removing satanic organizations from the legal field is the only possible solution in this logic.

In addition, Kipshitse noted, there is evidence confirmed by experts that the legally existing satanic environment is an environment for the spread of criminal offenses.
