OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has said that existing computers are not up to the demands of the new era of artificial intelligence.
In his opinion, modern hardware was designed for a world without AI, but now the situation has changed dramatically - the demands on hardware and software are rapidly transforming.
Altman emphasized that advanced AI systems, especially those at the level of superintelligence, will require a fundamentally different approach to architectural decisions to operate effectively. He suggested that users will have to move to next-generation devices that are more deeply integrated into their everyday lives.
The announcement comes amid rumors of a joint project between OpenAI and former Apple designer Jony Ive. The companies are allegedly developing an “artificially intelligent device” that can analyze the context of its owner’s life and make decisions on their behalf.
The head of OpenAI believes that humanity is approaching an era where interaction with technology will go beyond screens and keyboards.
