New public transportation fare hike in Istanbul

Agenda items in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Council that envisage price increases for many items, particularly transportation, culture and arts, environment and urban economy, were referred to the relevant commissions.

The first session of the October Meetings of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council was held at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Presidency building in Saraçhane, under the chairmanship of IMM Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan.

In the parliament where parliamentary questions were asked and speeches off the agenda were made, agenda items were also referred to the relevant committees.

In this context, articles envisaging price increases for many items such as public transportation vehicles such as buses, subways, metrobuses, minibuses and ferries in the city, as well as transportation including taxis and school shuttles, as well as İSPARK parking lots, nurseries, sports fields, theater, concert and cinema tickets were sent to the relevant commissions, especially the "Tariff Commission, Traffic and Transportation Commission and Planning and Budget Commission."

After the commissions complete their work, the agenda item is expected to be discussed in the IMM Assembly session to be held in the coming days.

In the third session of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council's September meetings held on September 12, it was decided to increase public transportation, taxis, and school buses by 30 percent. Accordingly, the shortest distance fare for minibuses, defined as "hop-on and hop-off," was increased from 25 lira to 32.50 lira for distances up to 4 kilometers; from 26 lira to 34 lira for distances between 4 and 7 kilometers; from 27 lira to 35 lira for distances between 7 and 11 kilometers; from 28 lira to 36 lira for distances between 11 and 15 kilometers; from 30 lira to 39 lira for distances between 15 and 20 kilometers; and the student fee was increased from 16 lira to 21 lira.

The price of an electronic full fare ticket was 35 lira, and the "Blue Card" monthly subscription was increased to 2,748 lira.
