Pork sold as beef

Pork sold as beef

The problem is getting bigger. The picture that emerges is that the Ministry cannot control the market.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has announced another remarkable report on food safety within the scope of the data it has published regularly on güvengida.tarimorman.gov.tr since October 2, 2024. The details in the newly published list have raised serious concerns, especially about meat products.

The fraud in the products that reach the consumer's table has targeted the red meat sector this time. In the inspections conducted by the ministry, it was determined that pork was being sold as beef. "While the fraudulent products were clearly announced with their brands, the most striking point of the list was that pork was being sold as beef." As a result of the inspections conducted throughout Türkiye, this unethical practice was encountered in 7 businesses operating in 5 provinces.

The most striking part of the scandal is that the cities where pork was detected were unexpectedly Anatolian cities. “According to the data, 2 of these businesses are in Bursa and 2 in Konya. Thus, these two cities unexpectedly took the top spot in the list of cities where pork-containing products were detected the most.”

Another address for fraud cases was Türkiye’s popular holiday destinations. “Other cases were seen in the touristic provinces of Antalya, Muğla and Balıkesir. Pork meat was detected in individual businesses in these regions as well.”

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, continuing its duty to inform the public, announced the names of the companies and products detected during the inspections. “The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has openly announced to the public the companies and products that act in violation of the legislation. This list serves as a warning to both consumers and the sector.”
