The Market Law has come to an end: Warehouse solution at exorbitant prices

The Ministry of Trade is nearing completion on the new draft Law on Wholesale Markets, which aims to prevent exorbitant prices in the fruit and vegetable sector. The draft, expected to be submitted to the Turkish Grand National Assembly shortly, also includes some new support and practices for producers. This includes providing storage and transportation support for storable fruits and vegetables.

According to a report in Türkiye Newspaper, the rationale behind the regulation is to protect producers who incur losses by selling at low prices during periods of plentiful supply and to increase the amount of stored product. This will prevent price increases caused by supply falling short of demand during periods of low production.

PRECAUTION AGAINST INFORMALITY

The draft bill plans to increase inspections on intercity roads and at entrances and exits to and from provinces and districts. Roadside inspection stations established by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure will be used for fruit and vegetable inspections, and these inspections will involve law enforcement officers, as well as personnel from the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, and the Ministry of Trade.
