The price increased from 1,500 to 4,500 TL: Those who went to the hospital regret it
Private health insurance holders entered 2025 with record premium increases. Experts believe the biggest reason for this increase was the exorbitant rise in hospital fees.
According to a report in Star News, healthcare costs have risen sharply over the past year. Significant increases have been made to many items, from doctor's consultation fees to hospitalization fees. Turusan Bağcı, President of the Consumer Confederation (TÜKONFED) Insurance Commission, said, "Last year, a specialist's fee was 1,500 lira, but today it's 4,500 lira. We can say that a one-night stay at a private hospital costs between 35,000 and 100,000 lira."
A FAMILY OF FOUR'S EXPENSES HAVE DOUBLEDFor those actively using their insurance, premiums have nearly doubled at renewal. Even policies that haven't been used have seen increases of up to 40%. Insurance experts say policies for a family of four, which were in the 150,000-200,000 lira range last year, have now reached 350,000-400,000 lira.
While supplemental health insurance premiums are lower, the rate of increase remains the same. Bağcı said, "We can easily see that premiums for a family of four, which were 30,000-40,000 lira last year, have reached figures of 80,000-90,000 lira this year."
IT IS POSSIBLE TO USE DISCOUNTSExperts state that it's possible to renew policies at a discount. However, they emphasize that caution is necessary. Turusan Bağcı said, "With private health insurance, low usage translates to discounts. Avoiding unnecessary tests, referrals, and expenses can help you receive additional discounts from your insurer."
