A debate broke out over LGS in the Turkish Grand National Assembly

The Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) General Assembly convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Tekin Bingöl to discuss the "Proposed Law Amending Certain Laws." During the session where the deputy group chairs addressed the agenda, a discussion of the LGS (High School Entrance Exam) erupted.
CHP Deputy Parliamentary Group Chair Murat Emir, commenting on the proposed law concerning energy and mining regulations, expected to be discussed in today's General Assembly, said, "You were authorized on behalf of the nation, and you were supposed to legislate on their behalf, yet you want three companies to mine. And you say, 'We'll give you the coordinates, don't worry.' If it's a good thing, do it all over Türkiye; why are you only doing it at certain coordinates in Muğla? What did you promise anyone, how much bribe did you take from anyone? You're trying to force the Assembly, which you call the 'Supreme Assembly,' to work day and night to introduce an olive massacre law. How can you raise your hand against this? How can you allow it? How can you go to your own regions? How can you look your children and grandchildren in the face?"
AK Party Deputy Group Chair Muhammet Emin Akbaşoğlu also took the floor to respond to CHP Deputy Group Chair Murat Emir. Akbaşoğlu said, "In the interest of our country, considering the necessity of using Türkiye's national and domestic resources for electricity production and energy diversity, we proposed the 'Energy Law' considering Türkiye's interests and the interests of our nation. He probably confused us with CHP municipalities by asking us a question like, 'Have you taken a bribe?'."
'THERE IS A PUBLIC DANGER HERE'Speaking during a heated exchange between AKP and CHP deputies at the General Assembly, CHP Deputy Group Chairman Murat Emir said, "Do we have to slaughter those olives to generate electricity? There's a public loss here. Moreover, this public loss isn't just a billion-dollar loss; it's a massacre of nature you can't compensate for; that's what we're trying to explain. If there's no dirty business involved, why are you digging into this mess? Don't. The tender has been held, the terms are clear, it's clear the olives are on top, it's clear they can't be cut, the 'Olive Law' is clear. You've changed the 'Olive Law' 10 times in the last 22 years. What's your problem with these olives? The AKP's test with olives: get your hands off the olives, think about the olive growers."
'TURHAN ÇÖMEZ IS DECEIVING THE PUBLIC'AK Party Deputy Group Chairman Muhammet Emin Akbaşoğlu then took the floor, stating that İYİ Party Deputy Group Chairman Turhan Çömez had spread disinformation on social media regarding the results of the central exam administered as part of the LGS exam. He said, "My notes also mentioned the issue of your esteemed counterpart, Mr. Turhan Çömez, deceiving the entire public with a clearly false tweet and misleading them, but I couldn't address it. Therefore, the necessary statements regarding public officials were made clearly and distinctly by the relevant authorities, and the public is aware of this."
İYİ Party Deputy Group Chairman Turhan Çömez, who came to the podium and made assessments at the General Assembly, said, "As your Minister put it, 'I won't explain this speech as if I were explaining it to an idiot'; he will do that himself. I will explain it in a way that anyone with a conscience, sense of humor, morality, love of country, and fear of God can understand. There was the LGS exam, and I submitted a parliamentary question. I said, Mr. Minister, 719 students got full marks. Tell me about the schools of these students, their provinces, and what's behind the scenes. The Minister hasn't condescendingly addressed this Parliament, this Assembly, and given a single line of answer. He hasn't called me, he hasn't informed me, he hasn't informed Parliament," while the AKP deputies reacted, saying, "You're lying." Çömez then said, "This was published on the official website of the school in question, why do you deny it? Take it, see it, and be ashamed of what you said. You cannot answer my questions, you do not have the courage to say this, you do not have the political morality to say this."
The reunion was suspendedWhile reactions continued to pour in from the AK Party ranks during İYİ Party member Çömez's statements, Parliamentary Deputy Speaker Tekin Bingöl called a 10-minute recess. Following the recess, the General Assembly continues to discuss the group proposal submitted by the Yeni Yol group to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly.
