Local and national black boxes for KAAN, HÜRKUŞ and HÜRJET

The production of domestic and national aircraft in Turkey continues to increase and develop with the support of domestic companies. Important progress is being made in the development processes of the National Combat Aircraft KAAN, the new generation basic training aircraft HÜRKUŞ, and the training aircraft HÜRJET, produced by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) with domestic and national means. The black box of the domestic and nationally produced aircraft is also produced by the Turkish company CTech. The black box, produced by Turkish engineers, has a 60 percent local content rate. The strategically important device undergoes temperature, pressure, impact and shock tests.
CTech General Manager Cüneyd Fırat, who provided information about the black box, said, "CTech has undertaken the domestic production of the black boxes to be used in the fixed wing aircraft series produced by Kaan, HÜRKUŞ and HÜRJET TUSAŞ. When you look at the black box functionally, it has a basic function. It is a memory unit that records both the technical data on the aircraft and all the conversations in the cockpit during the flight or mission. However, what makes the black box exceptional is that it can be damaged especially after an accident or a crash, God forbid, but it is still readable. That is the ultimate purpose. We know it as a black box, but it has a very striking orange color. The orange color is used so that it can be easily seen and separated from the wreckage. Although the device is an electronic memory unit, it has a very mechanical appearance. The main purpose of this is to protect the electronic memory unit of the aircraft after the collision. We call this crash resistance. The main engineering design side of the business lies there. We are talking about a complete subsystem with its read-write units, interfaces and other designs. However, the most exceptional aspect is that it is crash resistance. We are aiming," he said.
"In case of a problem, there will be no need to go abroad, so it is a strategic product"Stating that the domestic production of the black box has strategic importance, Fırat said, "In the tests, the device is first exposed to heat. The device exposed to heat is taken and an impact shock is applied. After the same device goes through the impact, pressure is applied. After all, we are talking about a military platform. There is a lot of data on it. The security of this data is important. This device actually carries data security. With the device being produced domestically, there will be no need to go abroad in case of any problems that may occur on our platforms. In that respect, it is a strategic product. Our localization rate is around 50-60 percent. Our work on increasing localization will continue. There are some communication systems on the plane that are activated in case of an accident, and they are integrated with this anyway. This also has some communication elements on itself. The purpose of the communication here is location notification."
