Costruita nel V secolo e risalente a 100 anni fa dalla Grande Moschea di Santa Sofia , la Moschea Imrahor Ilyas Bey , nota anche come Monastero degli Studios, nel quartiere Fatih di Istanbul , è passata alla storia come la più antica struttura religiosa di Istanbul. L'edificio, utilizzato come chiesa durante il periodo bizantino, fu trasformato in moschea dopo la conquista di Istanbul. L'edificio, convertito in moschea da Imrahor Ilyas Bey durante il regno di Bayezid II, è sopravvissuto a numerose crisi.

La moschea storica, che subì i danni maggiori durante l'invasione latina, fu colpita anche dal terremoto del 1894. L'intera copertura superiore e la sezione in legno della moschea Imrahor Ilyas Bey, riparata durante il regno del sultano Selim III, crollarono nei primi anni del 1900, prima a causa di un incendio e poi a causa della pioggia. Con la chiusura delle logge dei dervisci e delle zawiya nel 1925, la moschea Imrahor Ilyas Bey cadde in rovina. Quando la moschea di Santa Sofia fu trasformata in museo nel 1934, l'edificio storico fu trasferito al museo.

La moschea Imrahor Ilyas Bey, sottoposta a restauro nel 1954-1955, è stata trasferita alla Direzione generale delle fondazioni del Ministero della cultura e del turismo nel 2012, dopo essere rimasta inattiva per circa 100 anni. I progetti preparati per il restauro della moschea Imrahor Ilyas Bey sono stati accettati dal Preservation Board nel 2019.

CONTINUA IL RESTAURO NELLA MOSCHEA STORICA

Proseguono i lavori di restauro, iniziati nel 2023 nell'ambito dei progetti approvati. Nella moschea storica è stata effettuata la pulizia ambientale. È stata completata l'installazione del tetto temporaneo con sistema Space Frame per proteggere la moschea Imrahor Ilyas Bey, aperta da 100 anni a causa di vari disastri. Una volta ultimato il tetto provvisorio, l'edificio del lodge verrà smantellato con cura. Inoltre, mentre le colonne che sostenevano la galleria superiore nella sezione settentrionale della moschea storica erano presenti, quelle nella sezione meridionale sono scomparse. La moschea Imrahor Ilyas Bey, che verrà riportata al suo stato originale, comprese le colonne nella sezione meridionale, sarà aperta al culto una volta completati i lavori. Feyyaz Fidan, Director of the Artworks and Construction Works Branch of the Foundations Istanbul 1st Regional Directorate, said, "This monastery, which we can say is the oldest religious structure in Istanbul, is the Studios Monastery. The structure, which was used as a monastery until the conquest of Istanbul, was converted into a mosque and lodge by the Mirahor of Beyazıt II, İlyas Bey, after the conquest. In addition to the mosque, this building complex also includes a cistern, a holy spring and a fountain. We know that it had a large arcaded courtyard and dervish cells. After it became a mosque, a minaret was added, but unfortunately, we see that the cone and honeycomb sections have not survived to the present day. When talking about the İmrahor İlyas Bey Mosque, of course we should mention the opus sectila found in the Harim. In addition to its cultural heritage value for both Istanbul and Turkey, it is also valuable in terms of world culture. During the period it was built, various stones were brought from many parts of the country and these stones were laid according to a certain geometric order. First of all, we established the construction site. We cleaned the plants and the environment. Of course, this was a structure that had been exposed to natural effects for over 100 years. For this reason, the idea of ​​establishing a temporary roof emerged to end the effects. We established the temporary roof. Injection works are being carried out on the walls with static problems throughout the structure. It continues as long as the weather conditions allow. The beam gaps are also emptied. The wooden elements have also been renewed. Exploration excavations are being carried out at many points of the structure. In order to understand the foundation of the structure and the ground it sits on. The soil extracted from here is like an archaeological excavation, the soil is tesserae extracted by sifting, some architectural elements are being protected. These are also carried out under the supervision of the Turkish Islamic Arts Museum. The expropriation of the cistern section has also been completed. A cleaning work is being carried out there.
