HBO Max will no longer allow account sharing; this will require a fee to add a user who lives outside the home.

MEXICO.— HBO Max is aligning itself with the policies implemented by streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney Plus, and will now be stricter with shared accounts.
The subscription service also announced what will happen, or rather, how much it will charge for each user who lives outside the home where the service was purchased.
Last but not least, HBO Max announced that this major change will happen next September. Here's everything you need to know...
HBO Max is joining the strategy of other major streaming companies and ending shared accounts.
And according to the technology-specialized portal The Verge , JB Perette , head of streaming for the Warner Bros. – Discovery conglomerate, revealed the new measures regarding the HBO Max platform.
This is how it has been revealed that starting in September of this year ( 2025 ), subscribers will see changes in the streaming service's account sharing policy.
Therefore, users who share their account with people who don't live at the same address as the account holder will have to make an additional payment if they wish to retain this "mode."
Regarding the price HBO Max will charge for adding another user who lives outside the established household, the aforementioned media outlet indicated that the streaming platform will begin requiring an additional payment of $7.99 dollars (almost 150 MXN pesos) per month for each additional member.
The Verge also reported that the streaming platform already uses technology to detect when an account is shared outside the home.
These mechanisms include analysis of IP address , device ID , account information and user activity, so they will notice the use of the account on a site other than that of the owner.
It's worth noting that HBO Max's basic service in Mexico currently costs 99 pesos , but the monthly Platinum package costs around $200.
Here's the list of prices for the HBO Max subscription packages in Mexico:
Basic with Ads | $99.00 | $1,188.00 | Full HD | 2 |
Standard | $149.00 | $1,788.00 | Full HD | 2 |
Platinum | $199.00 | $2,388.00 | 4K Ultra HD* | 4 |
It's worth mentioning that according to the help page, it states that " HBO Max accounts are intended for the account holder (the person who created the account) and the people they live with." Otherwise, it encourages users to create their own account, with the option to pay for an additional user coming soon.
