Readers' Letters. Elected Officials "Against Cancer... and for Cancer"

"On June 29, 2025, the League's strides took place, organized by the League against cancer, bringing together between 4,000 and 5,000 participants. Speaking at the podium were the president of the League, Dr. Patrick Strentz, Hugo Claudel, sponsor of the strides, a young cancer patient currently in remission, and local politicians Eric Straumann , mayor of Colmar, Brigitte Klinkert, Renaissance MP, and Yves Hemedinger [Alsace councilor].
All these politicians have made very consensual speeches against cancer. Cancer is not good, it's a terrible scourge, the volunteers are very friendly and the families of victims and cancer victims are very touching, etc. How could we do otherwise? It was nice to see.
On July 8, the Duplomb law (LR senator from Haute-Loire), which provides in particular for the conditional reintroduction of acetamiprid, a pesticide from the neonicotinoid family , of which several recent studies highlight severe impacts on biodiversity and suggest effects on the human brain, banned in France since 2018 but authorized in Europe, was adopted (by 316 votes to 223) without debate in the National Assembly with the votes of the deputies of the National Rally, LR and the Macronists. Among them, Brigitte Klinkert .
Let us recall that all of France's environmental protection associations, 22 medical learned societies, the League Against Cancer, the administrators and staff of the National Agency for Health Safety, the third largest agricultural union, the Foundation for Medical Research, 20 mutual insurance companies and mutualist groups representing several million policyholders, the scientific council of the CNRS, the federation of drinking water authorities, hundreds of doctors and researchers, research organizations, and the CNRS Institute of Ecology and Environment have mobilized against this law.
Barely 15 days between the two events. Everything and its opposite. Against cancer and for cancer. I hope, on my behalf, and on behalf of all citizens dismayed and revolted by the hypocrisy of the speeches and the cynicism of the behaviors favoring the interests of a few to the detriment of the well-being and health of the greatest number, by amputating the future of future generations, that explanations be demanded from Brigitte Klinkert and all those who voted for the law. No ostracism.
