SpaceX invests $2 billion in xAI

SpaceX invests $2 billion in xAI

After acquiring X for $33 billion, xAI will receive $2 billion from SpaceX . The investment is part of the capital raising announced by Morgan Stanley in June ($5 billion). According to the Financial Times and Bloomberg , a new round of financing is expected to bring the company's valuation to $200 billion .

Elon Musk uses SpaceX to push xAI

After leaving his post at DOGE, falling out with former friend Donald Trump, and founding a political party , Elon Musk has decided to take his younger and potentially more profitable company more closely to try to catch up and outperform the competition, especially “enemy number one” OpenAI .

Since xAI's inception, Musk has drawn on the resources of his other companies. Many engineers have come from Tesla to work on AI technologies for autonomous driving. The merger between xAI and X will further expand the reach of Grok, already deeply integrated into the social network (with often questionable results ). Now two billion dollars will arrive from SpaceX .

Grok has been used since late 2024 to provide Starlink customer support. The aerospace company has already been exploited by Musk to finance other companies ($20 million for Tesla and $1 billion for the acquisition of Twitter). According to the Wall Street Journal, the $2 billion investment represents a risk because it is currently engaged in the (expensive) development of the Starship rocket.

According to the Financial Times and Bloomberg, a new round of financing is expected, valuing xAI at $200 billion . Among the investors is PIF, Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund. Musk has denied the news.
