The number of motorcycles insured in Torreón increases due to traffic violations and the presence of minors.

The number of motorcycles insured in Torreón increases due to traffic violations and the presence of minors.

Following the tightening of penalties for motorcyclists riding without helmets, licenses, or license plates, the number of vehicles seized in Torreón has increased, and it has been found that 10 percent of drivers are minors.

Luis Alberto Morales Cortés, director of Roads and Urban Mobility in Torreón, said that Mayor Román Alberto Cepeda instructed drivers to toughen up their enforcement efforts to ensure road safety. Therefore, vehicles that do not have license plates and whose drivers do not have a motorcycle license have been removed from circulation. This is in addition to the helmet, which was previously the standard check.

He noted that this will increase the number of applicants for the training and certification course, as increasing this number is a priority, and the goal is to reach 8,000 trained motorcyclists by Monday.

"This is an unprecedented action. I dare say that even at the national level, we have a head start, and obviously the number of motorcycles exceeds 20,000, which is why we have to take these measures," he commented.

He mentioned that The training time has been adjusted from 6 to 3 hours to make it more accessible. , taking care to maintain the quality and content, which remains the same, but has reached a greater number of motorcyclists with the understanding that this is a problem that is occurring throughout the country.

"Today, it's so easy to acquire a motorcycle that even minors ride this vehicle, and we've found them, representing 10% of the total number of vehicles we've recalled," he said.

The director said that this year alone, they are close to surpassing 2,500 trained and certified motorcyclists, of whom 30% have come voluntarily; the rest have come after their units were removed for the aforementioned violations. He noted that high schools have also been approached to offer this course, as well as companies that have motorcycle delivery drivers.

Morales Cortés said that all motorcyclists whose vehicles are towed are issued a violation for their helmet, license plate, or license. He noted that the license plate is a vehicle identification document that, for safety reasons, all vehicles must carry, along with the license for that particular type of vehicle. They must also have third-party liability insurance, according to regulations, in case they are involved in a traffic accident.
