The weather situation in Poland is exceptionally dynamic. According to the constantly updated forecasts of the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management, long-term heavy rainfall is expected in the coming days. Alerts have been issued for most regions - especially in the east, center and south of the country - about possible river overflows and flooding. Meanwhile, hydrological drought persists in Western Pomerania.
The Regional Water Management Board in Szczecin would like to point out that various speculations, reports and guesses are being published on social media regarding the state of preparations in the event of a flood threat. It also appeals to use only data and information from verified sources.
– The announcement about our preparations before the expected wave of heavy rainfall can be found on the home page of the State Water Management Company Polish Waters – informs Marek Synowiecki, spokesman for the State Water Management Company Polish Waters RZGW in Szczecin. – It concerns both the situation before the expected heavy rainfall and the state of preparation of the Polish Waters hydrotechnical facilities (primarily flood control reservoirs) before the expected wave of floods on rivers, especially in locations where rainfall may be the most intense.
Polish Waters reports that all 52 wet retention reservoirs have flood capacities equal to or greater than those required by water management instructions. The reservoirs are ready to receive flood waters, and their operation will be adjusted to current hydrological forecasts and issued warnings.
According to forecasts, waves of heavy rainfall will pass over Poland on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday (July 8/9).

Meanwhile, in Western Pomerania, hydrological drought continues in the catchment areas of the Ina and Płonia rivers, as well as in the section of the lower Odra from the mouth of the Warta to Gryfino. This phenomenon also affects the Rega catchment area from its source to its mouth. Due to low water flows in these areas, water flows are expected to continue to be below the multi-year average.
