Przemyśl has special reasons to pay homage to the first king of Poland after many centuries. It was Bolesław the Brave who regained Przemyśl for Poland in 1018, after an expedition to Kiev. It was during his reign that a complex of pre-Romanesque stone buildings was built in the San stronghold on Castle Hill – a rotunda (a circular chapel) and a rectangular palatium (a palace). Did the first king of Poland visit them? Perhaps…
In any case, on Sunday afternoon, June 22nd, the courtyard of Kazimierzowski Castle came alive with tradition and history. The staging began at the Archcathedral Basilica, from where a colorful procession set off, led by Bolesław the Brave, who was anointed the first king of Poland on the site of the former palatium. After a moment of pathos, it was time for dynamic shows – from the Piast team fights, through the anthem performed by the “Soul” band, to souvenir photos with the “royal” court. In the courtyard, one could feel the medieval atmosphere thanks to knightly presentations, craft workshops and falconry shows for children and adults. At 7 p.m., the spectacular Royal Concert “1000 Years of the Polish Crown” began, with the participation of: Anna Sokołowska-Alabrudzińska, Mateusz Mijal, Jacek Wójcicki and the Orchestra conducted by Maciej Nieć with the guest appearance of Wojciech Sokolnicki.
