CERCIG advances with works on the future Continuing Care Unit

CERCIG – Cooperative for the Education and Rehabilitation of Maladjusted Citizens of Guarda will begin construction work on the future Continuing Care Unit, in the Guarda Industrial Park area.
This assistance cooperative, founded on July 21, 1977, with altruistic purposes and recognized as a Public Utility Institution since 1983, aims to build a modern unit, with the best conditions and excellent services, where each person can recover with dignity, start over with hope and feel truly supported.
CERCIG explains that the future Continuing Care Unit “will not be a structure designed for permanent stays, nor aimed at a specific public”. It goes on to say that it is “a health response, designed for all ages, which will accommodate those who are in the process of clinical recovery and require specialized continuing care”.
“More than a social response, this Unit will also be a way to decongest our Hospital, freeing up beds for more urgent cases and actively contributing to the defense of the National Health Service, a pillar that we love and defend with conviction”, says CERCIG.
It should be remembered that CERCIG is in the final stages of completing the social response in Maçainhas, a building that will house an ERPI, a Home Support Service and a Day Center, with capacity for 112 people.
In Guarda, CERCIG is also building collaborative housing and Urgent and Temporary Accommodation.
Collaborative housing is a “space designed to accommodate different people in vulnerable situations, such as elderly parents who wish to continue living with their disabled children, among other cases that benefit from community life and the right support”. It is a space that can accommodate 54 people in a concept of sharing and mutual assistance, with community gardens, gardens, a fitness circuit, gym, laundries and multipurpose rooms.
“Urgent and Temporary Accommodation” is intended to house around 30 women and children who are victims of domestic violence, immigrants and refugees.
