PAN denounces death of bull in bullfight on Terceira Island

PAN denounces death of bull in bullfight on Terceira Island

In a statement, PAN stated that it “became aware [of the incident] through several public complaints”, having reported the situation to the Regional Animal Ombudsman and GNR/SEPNA. PAN/Açores also said that it “demanded clarifications from the Municipal Council of Angra do Heroísmo, the Regional Government and the PSP about what happened”, given that “they are the entities that license and supervise bullfighting activities”.

In the note, PAN/Açores considers that there is “an escalation in the severity of injuries to people and animals, resulting in deaths” in bullfights, “an undeniably violent activity”.

Questioned by Lusa, the vice-president of the Angra do Heroísmo City Council, Guido Teles, said he did not have “much information about what happened”, but recalled that “the custom is to have an inspector present at each bullfight”, initiatives that have to be authorised by the municipality.
