The publication of images on social media showing a discharge of water on Foz do Arelho beach, next to Facho, has caused concern among some bathers, but the Municipality of Caldas da Rainha assures that the situation is under control and does not pose any danger to public health.

In a statement, the municipality clarifies that it was a drainage of rainwater, which occurred this Monday, June 30, as a side effect of the cleaning of the bottom discharge of one of the reservoirs in the upper area of Foz do Arelho.

The operation was carried out by the Municipal Water and Sanitation Services, following an incident recorded last Friday, which led to the accumulation of sediments — such as sand and clay — in the reservoir cells. “The aim of the intervention is to guarantee the transparency of the water supplied to homes in the affected area”, says the municipality, reinforcing that this discharge does not compromise the quality of the sand nor put holidaymakers at risk. “We highlight the absence of any risk to public health”, reads the note issued, which also offers an apology for the inconvenience caused.
